Greenville, Delaware
Owner: Mt. Cuba Center
Customer: EDIS Company
The Mt. Cuba Center is a non-profit institution dedicated to the
study and preservation of plants native to the Piedmont Region of
the eastern U.S., Mt. Cuba Center’s enormous Colonial Revival style
house, which is the main headquarters for the center, was originally
built in 1936 and was home to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lammot du Pont
Copeland.
Delcard Associates was responsible for the complete retrofit of
the plumbing and HVAC systems and installation of new
state-of-the-art building automation controls. Care had to be taken
to maintain systems as needed throughout the facility while removing
systems that were to be abolished and/or replaced. Preserving
fragile artwork, such as the century’s old hand painted Chinese wall
paper and 18th century paneling from homes in the eastern U.S.
provided Delcard with a welcome challenge.
