Massive 72 million dollar construction project
consisting of three new residence hall buildings and named after
three University of Delaware signers of the Declaration of
Independence: George Read, Thomas McKean and James Smith. The new
313,000 sf complex has approximately 1,000 beds, compared to the
750-bed motel-style Pencader complex.
Phase I of the project began in August 2004 with the
construction of the 5-story, 500 bed George Read Hall.
Phase II of the project began in June 2005 with the construction of
Thomas McKean Hall and James Smith Hall. The two 5-story mirror
image buildings have 250-beds each.
