Customer: Wohlsen Construction
The historic renovation of the private residence of
A.I. DuPont, the first full renovation of this home since it was
built, challenged and tested every designer, contractor, and
tradesman as few other projects tend to do in our line of work. Due
to the delicate nature of the contents of the residence, the desire
to preserve and maintain much of the original infrastructure, and
the high expectations of the present owners (the Nemours
Foundation), extreme care and diligence was required by all, with
the emphasis on planning and coordination. This project was part of
a larger undertaking, and was being done concurrently with the
renovation of the exterior gardens, and the creation of a new
visitors center (which Delcard also completed). Nestled on the
grounds behind the DuPont Children’s Hospital, this 47,000 square
foot building included both the main residence, and the attached
servant’s wing. |
